The name draws inspiration from the historic Champfleurie Estate, located just a few miles east of Linlithgow. Believed to have been named by Mary Queen of Scots, Champfleurie is derived from the French phrase meaning "flowering fields”, a fitting name that reflects Bridgend’s picturesque landscape and natural beauty.
The name also acknowledges Bridgend's industrial heritage. During the late 1800s, the Champfleurie Oil Works, sometimes referred to as the Bridgend Oil Works, formed part of West Lothian's shale oil industry, helping shape the local economy and contributing to the village's history.
